Welcome to the Monkhaven Silver workshop. My name is Keith Watson, and I am a designer & maker of hand-crafted jewellery and other items.
Working from my small workshop in north-west Surrey I make mainly pendants, brooches, and earrings in sterling silver using traditional silversmith techniques, and flatware in silver and other materials, again only using traditional methods. All pieces (except chains) are entirely hand-made by me.
I take my inspiration from many different sources. One of my favourite areas for inspiration is modernist art and architecture from the 1940s-50s-60s, such as Ben Nicholson, Mark Rothko, and Barbara Hepworth. I'm also fascinated by stained glass, and several pieces are based around modern church or cathedral stained-glass, particularly glass artists such as John Piper and Thomas Denny.
I don't do production runs or take commissions (but if there is a ring you like I can re-create it in a size to suit you), rather I try to turn my ideas individually into silver, often with the help of semi-precious stones and enamel. Some of the ideas that worked (in my opinion!) are on this website.
Since I individually hand craft my jewellery pieces, they are all unique. Occasionally I make a few similar pieces in a series, but again, each piece in the series is individual and unique.
All my silver pieces are fully hallmarked by the London Assay Office. You can read more about Hallmarking, and why it is important, on the Hallmarking page.
Please take a look at the pieces. If there's anything you like, you can purchase directly from me through the secure link below the picture. You can also contact me at the Workshop to discuss any of the pieces.
